George Brassens was a Poet, Singer, Songwriter, iconoclast and Languedoc hero. He came from the Mediterranean port of Sète where there is now a museum dedicated to him.
Some of his songs are about The Languedoc or the Midi more generally. Examples are Heureux qui comme Ulysse about Provence and the Camargue; Supplique pour être enterré sur une plage de Sète, a tongue-in-cheek request to be buried on the beach at Sète; and Chanson pour l'Auvergnat. The following represent a selection of some of Brassens' most famous songs. They are moving and funny, and provide a good way to improve your French. Click on any title to see the words of the song, or see below for what works are currently available through Amazon.
