Living in the Languedoc: Education Private Schools
The private sector educates around 15% of primary school and 20% of secondary school pupils, percentages which have remained stable over the past decade.
Most private schools are Catholic schools with contracts with the State (which pays among other costs their staff salaries).
There are fewer than 50,000 pupils in private schools without such contracts, presumably because their parents have to pay high fees.
Religious Schools Despite its claims to secularism, the French state heavily subsidises the Roman Catholic Church to indoctrinate school children. As in other countries they often achieve better academic results than ordinary state schools because they eschew modern fads.
International Schools If you would like your child to go to an International school, then you can find details of these in your yellow pages, or contact ELSA FRANCE. (a non profit making association composed of schools which offer advanced programmes of study in English). ELSA FRANCE can be contacted on: (33) 01 45 34 04 11. |
