Things to do in the Languedoc: : Canyoning
Canyoning in the Cevennes.
Canyoning includes walking, sliding down rock faces, jumping and swimming. Descending some waterfalls requires ropes.
Guided "baptism trips" to the bottom of sheer gorges, carved out of schist and granite by torrents from the Mont Lozère and the Mont Aigoual. An introduction to the sport of canyoning, for adults (fourteen years +). The gorges are located in the mountains within 30 kilometers of Florac.
More advanced "sport trips" to gorges around the Mont Lozère and the Mont Aigoual. Equipment required is more sophisticated (harnesses, abseiling gear, double ropes). Although not exclusively for specialists, these trips do require some experience of canyoning or familiarity with the techniques of rappelling. All the equipment necessary is provided, including wet suits and rock-climbing gear. Groups consist of seven to nine canyoners.
