Caving and Pot-holing in the Cevennes. Exploring underground caves, tunnels and pot-holes. A rich network of such formations has been carved out of the limestone of the southern Lozère over millennia, including underground rivers and water falls, stalactites and stalagmites and other spectacular limestone formations. Special equipment and training needed. Guides included.
"Baptism", for adults and children of over 8. The caves are found in the valleys within 20 kilometres of Florac. Cavers must wear special headgear, wet suits and boots. Mostly walking with some easy rock-climbing and some crawling through confined passages.
More advanced explorations take place under the plateau above Florac. More sophisticated equipment is needed (ropes, harnesses, abseiling gear). Equipment is supplied(including wet suits, head gear and boots). Groups consist of seven to nine cavers. Explorations typically take between four and five hours.
